HH Aga Khan meets Amina Mohammed

This Lisbon Partnership for peace and prosperity for the people and our planet is a symptomatic sign of the new global importance of Portugal.

Since His Highness The Aga Khan, the leader of the Shia Muslim order (representing 15 million Imami Ismailis in 25 countries) in 1980 established his Foundation in Portugal and in 2015 his Official Residence, the institution promotes peace and pluralism with an annual budget of €1 billion irrespective of race, gender, religion or politics.

HH Aga Khan states on May 2nd 2019 that “Portugal sets an example of a pluralist country, which is remarkable and should be honoured, recognised and copied globally.”

The Global Centre for Pluralism established by HH Aga Khan in 2006 for the Annual Pluralism Lecture in Lisbon, invited the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Amina Mohammed, creator of the 2030 sustainable development agenda, as keynote speaker on “How does Pluralism advance the sustainable development agenda?”.
